Stopped to say hello to my office neighbours this morning! Where we spend our time can be as important as who we spend it with. We’re loving the community in our co-working space at @workspace_highland, and looking out on this view every day is good for the soul.
It's #InternationalWomensDay, which feels like a great moment to reflect on the many wonderful women who continue to inspire me, and the wonderful men who have amplified our impact. To those of you young and old, serious and not-so-serious, professional and personal, please keep doing what you're doing.
This week we're running a short course for a local social care charity to help their managers put some structure around the numerous tasks & projects that keep landing on their desks. Given the uncertainty we're all working at the moment, learning how to take hold of the things we can control can help us feel that bit more on top of things.
Welcome to the white room... A well known catchphrase of winter sports enthusiasts, especially those that like to "go big" and immerse themselves in the white - when you don't know what's up or down, forward or back.
One challenge we often hear from course participants is the fear of having to start a new piece of work from a blank piece of paper. On our "Get Stuff Structured" virtual workshop we take participants through how to get started, get planning and get organised around a new project. Understanding purpose is essential to structuring any piece of work. If you don't, then things can get pretty chaotic as you can immediately lose sight of what information matters, what's important and what's just a shiny distraction.
In #facilitation and #training we often think about keeping participants engaged, or at least keeping their attention. It's important to structure your session well, with plenty of changes in activities and dynamics.
